The Young Beat

Mary Hickey Interiors Tasha

Who would ever think a short, dark-haired interior designer in the “upper register” of age and experience ( me!) would have so much in common with a tall, gorgeous girl with long blonde hair? ( Tasha!)

The “need” for coffee every morning unites us, of course…and gosh, we like the same food, but more than these daily habits, we both love..

Chairs, mid-century iconic pieces and salon-style displayed art.

As my first interview on our blog, I had a few important questions for Miss Tasha-

Q

So tell me about the “Granny Tash” tag…what does it mean?

A

Well, I got the name from my fiancé. It was a nod to my mass amounts of coffee consumption, going to bed early and my love of “thrifting”.  After laughing at it for a while, I realized that it really is fitting for me- especially since my entire life, I’ve been an “old soul”.

Q

And what do you mean by “vintage”? I know I mixed that up awhile with you!

A

The vintage I really enjoy are mid-century pieces. I love chairs, they are my “thing”.  My favorite chair is the Womb Chair, designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll in 1948. It’s a  true classic!

Q

How do you spend your Saturdays?

A

Typically I start the morning  with a nice breakfast, and a bit of internet browsing.  I  enjoy looking at blogs, and doing a bit of pinning.  On my dream Saturday… that is followed by a little thrift shopping with my mom., ending with a nice dinner out with the fiance and friends.

Q

What’s the next area/ project you’d like to tackle in your new home?

A

That is a tough question, because my mind is constantly changing! Our home was built in 1941, so there is much work to be done.  This spring, I think we will build a patio for outdoor dining. We love to have friends and family over for barbecues and cocktails. Think Spring!

Q

What blogs/pinterest boards do you “heart”? Why?

A

My favorite blog is Style by  Emily Henderson.  She is a stylist/designer in LA. She has a thing for “vintage” and uses it in the best possible ways. She has a wide mix of pieces with varying prices creating hi/low design, which I love so much.  Some of my favorite Pinterest boards are- Bri Emery, Oh Happy Day, Ban.do. They are all really cheery with a lot of bright prints and patterns.

Q

Tell me about your wedding plans? When and where?

A

We are getting married at a beautiful estate in St Thomas, on the beach! It has been my dream as long as I can remember.  For the past few years we have vacationed to St Thomas… so we finally said “LETS DO IT”! We have a date set for April 19th 2016! It will be very simple and casual. We are having a food truck cater it, which we are so excited about!

And there it is…I hope this interview gives you an inkling into the Tasha in my life! She is a loyal, industrious worker with a great eye, style and wonderfully “quirky” personality. Look for her blogs to come on her “take” on vintage!

Witness this… when asked what the “C” stands for on her art wall, ( not wanting to admit it is for her beloved Italian greyhound, Cheeto) she calmly looks you straight in the eye , smiles and says. “Oh..the C? the C is for C ( see!) our art wall!”

Ahhh…That’s my Tasha…you gotta love her.

My best,

Mary
